Although some universities have dorms allowing students to live on campus, a majority do not offer this facility in Dubai. Thus many students have to find a place to stay in but are unsure of where to live. Our guide hopes to give some valuable information of where to live as a student in Dubai.

Dubai Marina

Dubai Marina is near to The American University in Dubai (AUD) and the Dubai Knowledge Village, home to universities from all over the globe . There are 2 metro stations located in the Marina. The metro can be taken to commute to AUD directly whereas Knowledge Village can also be reached but requires a little walk. However now the newly constructed Dubai Tram makes it easier to reach Knowledge Village from Dubai Marina.

Pros:

• Dubai Metro and Tram access

• Proximity to the beach

• Dubai Marina Mall with retail shops, restaurants, cinemas

• The Beach and JBR Walk with retail shops, restaurants, cinemas

Cons:

• Expensive rents and properties

• Traffic congestion

• Crowded

Jumeirah Lake Towers

Directly opposite Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) are also located close to Dubai Knowledge Village and AUD. Similarly, JLT also has 2 metro stations although it lacks the Dubai Tram system. However, the sale price and the rent of an apartment is usually relatively cheaper in JLT compared to in Dubai Marina.

Although both are rather further away, Tecom and The Greens developments could also be considered when studying at a university in Knowledge Village or AUD. The apartments at The Greens and Tecom offer a good renting option as well. Living in either though should only be considered if one can drive a car.

Dubai Academic City

The Dubai Academic City is a mini city on the outskirts of Dubai. It is and will be home to many international universities. The city also has residential buildings providing a variety of different apartments for sale and rent. The Academic city does not have any metro stations but is instead serviced by Dubai RTA buses. Having a car here is not required to travel around the prescient although having one would make it easier to visit places outside the Academic City.

Pros:

• Cheap rental and property prices

Cons:

• Far away from the main city

• Will have to go out to the city for fun and leisure

• No malls

• Few restaurants

• Can be a bit lonely and empty place

Pros:

• Cheap rental and property prices

Cons:

• Far away from the main city

• Will have to go out to the city for fun and leisure

• No malls

• Few restaurants

• Can be a bit lonely and empty place
